Ultimate Guide to
Kruger National Park Safari
Everything you need to know
for the perfect safari experience
Introduction
Kruger National Park is arguably Africa\’s greatest wildlife destination. Covering nearly 20,000 square kilometres in northeastern South Africa, it is home to an astonishing diversity of wildlife including the famous Big 5 — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.
Whether you are a first-time safari goer or a seasoned wildlife enthusiast, Kruger offers an unparalleled experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know to plan the perfect Kruger safari — from the best time to visit and where to stay, to game driving tips and what wildlife to expect.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season from May to September is widely considered the best time to visit Kruger National Park. During this period the vegetation thins out making it much easier to spot wildlife. Animals also tend to congregate around water sources making game viewing more predictable and rewarding.
The wet season from October to April brings lush green landscapes and is excellent for bird watching as migratory species arrive. However the dense vegetation can make wildlife spotting more challenging. Baby animals are born during this period which is a magical experience for visitors.
Peak season runs from June to August when the weather is cool and dry. Book accommodation well in advance during this period as Kruger is extremely popular with both local and international visitors.
